An untenable situation (October 3, 2021)

First the things to celebrate!  Courts!! Justice!!

So unusual to celebrate…  My early legal fight to stop the spraying of Agent Orange led to my sainted mother, at that point still extant, to frequently say, “Judges should be taken out and beaten with chains.”  My mom’s book on the herbicide case was rejected by Farley Mowat’s dear friend Jack McClelland, famous Canadian publisher Continue reading An untenable situation (October 3, 2021)

Hold to 1.5 degrees (September 26, 2021)

Good Sunday Morning!

The very happy news is that Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig are home in Canada. Damn the whole geo-political, Donald Trump manipulation and the kidnapping of innocent Canadians by the Peoples’ Republic of China. And we are off to the races… How appropriate that the metaphor is “off to the races.”  We still operate under the completely perverse First Past the Post (FPTP) voting system based on old rules for horses and jockeys. Of course, our telegenic prime minister famously promised that 2015 would be the last election under FPTP.  If only… If he had kept his promise, we would not be in another election.  If not for this anti-democratic voting system, the cynical Liberal backrooms would not be motivated to shed the fairer and more collaborative minority parliament for one where 39% of the vote delivers 100% of the power.
