When: Saturday, August 9 at 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Where: Central Saanich Cultural Centre, Room A, and the park area next to it
(At the Brentwood Bay Library)
Why: Our Summer Picnic is a great opportunity to re-connect or connect for the first time with Elizabeth May and Green friends in a relaxed atmosphere.
What to bring: Your presence is the most important thing! Please bring a lawn chair for your comfort.
We will be providing some mid-afternoon snacks and (non-alcoholic) beverages. In the past, members have brought lots of wonderful food for a lunch, but this year we’re not doing lunch. Please feel free, but not obligated, to bring and share your favourite snack.
Please consider bringing one or more guests or possible new members, so they can check out what a friendly group we are. We are eager to add some new folks, honour our volunteers from past years, and encourage everyone to get to know one another.
At the event: We hope to introduce some of our wonderful scholarship winners from our SGI Scholarship Contest. Grade 12 students were invited to write an essay on one of the Green Party values and their involvement in the community around that value. We chose one winner from each of the 8 secondary schools in our SGI riding.
We intend to have some activities for children this year, including face-painting(!), to make it easier for families to attend and enjoy themselves.
How can you help? A few volunteers are needed at the picnic to:
- Set up and serve food, and help with clean-up.
- Help with the activities for children.
Can you help? Thank you! Please contact Jennifer Kennedy (jennifer.kennedy@greenparty.ca)
By the way, we are also looking for volunteers to help at the Saanich Fair (August 30-September 1) and our AGM (October 18). Please consider signing up for these when you’re at the Summer Picnic, or send a quick email to Jennifer.
We hope you’re enjoying a wonderful summer and look forward to celebrating it with you.
Your Executive Committee,
Saanich-Gulf Islands Greens
