Hello and welcome to the August SGI Newsletter.  Please enjoy reflections on the SGI summer picnic and information about upcoming events including the Saanich Fair September 2nd-4th, the Salt Spring Island Fall Fair September 9th and 10th, a provincial Greens picnic opportunity September 10th, and Global March to End Fossil Fuels/ Fridays for Future events Sept 15-17th.  If you’re attending either of the fall fairs be sure to look for our Green Party booths and come say hello.  Summer is not over quite yet!

The Unexpected Is More Expected (August 27, 2023)

Good Sunday Morning

Good Sunday Morning,

This Sunday finds John and me on an unexpected adventure. I am getting used to the unexpected – from June 29th and an unexpected stroke to August 9th and finding out that due to the stroke I am not allowed to fly, thus unexpectedly missing the planned Montreal Pride Parade and our train trip to Nova Scotia for a long planned vacation in Margaree. The saddest cancelation being unable to attend yesterday’s funeral for Pat Carney on Saturna Island – no way to get there. Fortunately, I should be able to get to British Columbia in time for her Vancouver Celebration of Life on September 9. Being barred from air travel did not stop my required in-person sessions with security and intelligence officers to investigate the issue of foreign interference in Canada’s electoral process.

Saanich Fall Fair (September 2-4, 2023)

Events

The 155th Saanich Fall Fair is coming on Labour Day weekend and as always, Elizabeth May and the SGI team will be there. Hosted by the North and South Saanich Agricultural Society, this year’s fall fair theme is “Jammin’ at the Fair” featuring preserved foods.

We are seeking volunteers to assist us at our booth in a variety of ways, including setup, cleanup, and helping pass on our Green message to the fairgoers over the three days. There are various opportunities to help that will suit your time and interests, and they are all fun!
