Hello! It’s Amita Kuttner, interim Leader of the Green Party of Canada – for a few months yet anyway! I have just finished my Reconnection Tour, which was quite amazing. It was delightful to meet Greens across the country and experience the diversity of who we are, feel the unity of our collective vision, and plant the seeds of the future of our Party. I am sad I didn’t make it everywhere – alas time is short and travel is very tiring – but hopefully I will in other ways get to meet with regions I didn’t make it to in person.
In total, we held thirty-six tour events across eight provinces, plus many meetings with past candidates and local organisers, as well as outreach meetings with advocacy groups, elected officials, and leaders. I also made it to a number of Electoral District Association meetings and events in person, and many more online! What an absolute joy to bear witness to the sprouting of what will become our future.
Being interim Leader has probably been the most beautiful experience of my life, our community is filled with wonderful people, and working with our small but mighty caucus is the honour of a lifetime, not to mention very rewarding. I am looking forward to the leadership race, and the Fall session of Parliament, pushing the government for the transformative solutions we need and supporting our fabulous MPs.
The party has been too quiet these past months, and I really want to be able to share our vision as well as the impactful work of our MPs with everyone, showing the country why electing Greens makes a huge difference. For this to happen effectively, the caucus needs support, especially to communicate what they do so that both MPs and I can push hard and hold the government to public account.
My old Electoral District Association of Burnaby North – Seymour has offered to help! Raising money that will go directly to caucus to hire communications and legislative support staff. We also need to cover some campaign debt from 2019 so the EDA is ready to launch at the next election.
So I am asking you all a huge favour: help me set my old riding up for success, and directly support the Leader and MPs in our work! Once we’ve surpassed the debt of a few thousand the rest will go to the caucus.
Please contribute here!
Thank you for your dedication, support, and hard work over the years. I took this job in service and in gratitude for everyone who built this party, and I have to say you’re all worth it! I feel great about where we’re headed, especially if we get kick-started this Fall. Everyone needs us right now, so we’d best show up!
Thank you, and please share this message with your networks!
All my very best,
Amita
P.S. The first round of voting in the leadership contest will be from October 7 to 14th, which means the deadline to renew your membership to vote in the first round is one month before, to be safe, renew before September 7th!
